Supporters of Children’s Air Ambulance
10 December 2018
Thorndell Engineering are proud supporters of the Children's Air Ambulance! Founded in 2012, the charity transfer specialist paediatric teams to treat small children in a time of need. To date, they have completed 300 journeys, providing life saving treatments to help children across the UK receive the support they need.
The charity currently runs two specialist helicopters; one based in Oxford, and the other in Doncaster. We're pleased to support the charity, and the helicopter stationed at the local Robin Hood Airport provides support to the whole of the North of England. Our donation helps the charity stay running, as they rely entirely on donations, with no support from government funds.
The two specialist helicopters have bespoke equipment on board, including a specially designed stretcher, an incubator, and an extra seat so a parent can accompany the child in their time of need. They allow the team to make life-saving trips in a fraction of the time. The very first baby to be treated was transported to the emergency surgery he needed in just 15 minutes. The same journey could have taken up to an hour by road!
The two helicopters are the only ones of their type in the UK dedicated to transferring critically ill children and babies form local hospitals to specialist paediatric treatment centres. Thorndell Engineering are proud to support such a worthwhile cause, especially one operating from our hometown, Doncaster, and providing life-saving services to children in the whole of the North of England.
